Overview

What is a Masters in
Civil Engineering in France?

A Masters in Civil Engineering (MSc) in France is a 2-year postgraduate program that trains engineers to design, build, and manage the infrastructure that supports modern civilisation — bridges, tunnels, highways, dams, buildings, and urban systems.

France is where this discipline was formalised. Ecole des Ponts ParisTech, founded in 1747, is the world's oldest civil engineering school. The country that gave us the Eiffel Tower, the Channel Tunnel, and the Millau Viaduct continues to lead in structural innovation, sustainable construction, and mega-project delivery.

With Vinci, Bouygues, and Eiffage — the world's three largest construction companies — headquartered in France, and the €36 billion Grand Paris Express underway, there has never been a better time for Indian engineers to study civil engineering here.

Why France

6 Reasons France Is
the Best Place to Study
Civil Engineering

No country has a deeper legacy in civil engineering than France. From the world's oldest school to the world's largest construction firms — here is why studying here changes everything.

01

Vinci, Bouygues, Eiffage — HQed Here

The world's three largest construction companies — Vinci, Bouygues, and Eiffage — are headquartered in France. Studying civil engineering here means direct access to internships and recruitment at these global giants.

02

Grand Paris Express — Europe's Largest Project

The €36 billion Grand Paris Express is the largest infrastructure project in European history — 200km of new metro lines, 68 stations. This mega-project is creating thousands of engineering jobs right now.

03

Ecole des Ponts — World's Oldest (1747)

France founded the world's first civil engineering school in 1747 — Ecole des Ponts ParisTech. The country that built the Eiffel Tower, Channel Tunnel, and Millau Viaduct has civil engineering in its DNA.

04

Sustainable Construction Leadership

France leads the EU in green building regulations and sustainable construction innovation. RE2020 standards and circular economy mandates mean graduates gain future-proof expertise in sustainable infrastructure.

05

EU Infrastructure Investments

The EU is investing hundreds of billions in transport, energy, and digital infrastructure across Europe. French-trained civil engineers are in prime position to lead these cross-border mega-projects.

06

2-Year Visa + Passeport Talent

France's APS permit gives you 2 years to work after graduation, with full Schengen access. The Passeport Talent visa allows highly skilled engineers to stay long-term — a direct path to a European career.

Eligibility

What Indian Students
Need to Qualify

These are baseline criteria. Our counsellors assess your profile individually and tell you exactly where you stand.

01

Academic Score & Accepted Degrees

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline. Ecole des Ponts and CentraleSupelec expect 75%+ (CGPA 7.5+). INSA Lyon, Grenoble INP, and Arts et Metiers accept 65–70%+. Public universities like Nantes and Lille work with 60%+. Strong academic fundamentals in mechanics and mathematics are essential.

02

GRE Preferred

GRE scores strengthen applications at top Grandes Ecoles like Ecole des Ponts, CentraleSupelec, and Mines ParisTech. A strong quantitative score (160+) can also unlock merit-based scholarships at several schools. Many public universities do not require GRE.

03

English Proficiency

IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 90+. No French language requirement for English-taught MSc programs. Students from English-medium Indian colleges often qualify for waivers with a Medium of Instruction certificate.

04

Work Experience

Not mandatory for most MSc programs, but site internships, construction project experience, or structural design work significantly strengthen your application. Candidates with hands-on experience in AutoCAD, STAAD Pro, Revit, or BIM tools are preferred. GATE-qualified candidates and those with internships at firms like L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, or government PWD departments stand out.

05

Documents Required

Statement of Purpose (1–2 pages, project-focused), 2–3 Letters of Recommendation (1 academic + 1 from internship supervisor preferred), updated CV, all academic transcripts, passport copy, and any relevant project portfolio or design work samples. Important: Charpak Scholarship SOPs are checked for plagiarism and AI-generated content is now flagged — always write your own.

Not sure if you qualify? Our counsellors do a profile analysis and tell you which schools you can get into — and what it takes to strengthen your application.

journey.
We walk it with you.

We've stood where you are — uncertain, hopeful, and afraid of getting it wrong.

What began as our own journey to France became a promise to guide others with honesty, not pressure. Our founders and partners don't just know about France — they live in Europe. Our co-founder pursued her Masters in France and calls Paris home today.

She didn't read about the experience online. She lived it. That means when you talk to us, you get reality — not a sales pitch built on brochures. We tell you what university interviews feel like. What the visa process actually requires. What Paris costs in January. What you'll miss about India, and what you'll love about France.

"We are always there to help or guide you — anytime — from India to France, forever."
