Paris. The World's
Design Capital —
Now Digital.
Gobelins. ENSAD. Strate. HETIC. France is where centuries of design heritage meets the future of digital interaction — and Indian students have a front-row seat.
What is an MSc in
Digital Design & UX in France?
An MSc in Digital Design & UX is a 1–2 year postgraduate program that trains you in user experience design, user interface design, interaction design, web design, graphic design, motion design, and digital creative direction. Programs combine design thinking with hands-on prototyping, coding, and real client projects.
France's unique position — Paris is the historic world capital of design, from Haussmann's urban planning to Art Deco to the Bauhaus influence. Today, French design schools like Gobelins (ranked world's #1 for animation/digital), ENSAD, and Strate are global leaders in digital design education. The French "creative tech" ecosystem — with companies like Ubisoft, Dassault Systèmes, Publicis, and a booming startup scene (Station F) — creates exceptional demand for UX/UI designers.
Career edge — France has Europe's 3rd largest tech ecosystem. Paris alone has 12,000+ startups. Every tech company, agency, and product team needs UX/UI designers. Graduates work at Ubisoft, Criteo, BlaBlaCar, Publicis, LVMH Digital, Dassault Systèmes, and global agencies with Paris offices (AKQA, Fjord/Accenture Song, frog).

6 Reasons France
Is the World's Digital
Design Capital
No country combines centuries of design heritage, world-class design schools, and a booming digital tech ecosystem the way France does. Here is why.
Paris — Global Capital of Design
From Haussmann to Art Nouveau to Le Corbusier, Paris has shaped the world's visual language for centuries. Today, that heritage extends into digital — Gobelins, ENSAD, and Strate are consistently ranked among the world's best design schools, producing graduates who lead UX teams at Google, Apple, and Ubisoft.
Gobelins — World's #1 Animation & Digital School
Gobelins (l'école de l'image) is consistently ranked the world's #1 school for animation and digital design. Its MSc programs in Interactive Design, Motion Design, and UX are taught by industry practitioners from Ubisoft, Publicis, and BETC. Admission is competitive — but the career payoff is extraordinary.
Ubisoft, Publicis, LVMH Digital & 12,000+ Startups
France is home to Ubisoft (world's 3rd largest game company), Publicis Groupe (world's 3rd largest advertising group), LVMH Digital, Criteo, BlaBlaCar, and Dassault Systèmes. Add 12,000+ startups at Station F and La French Tech, and you have Europe's most active hiring market for digital designers.
Europe's 3rd Largest Tech Ecosystem
France's tech ecosystem is Europe's 3rd largest (after UK and Germany). Paris is home to Station F (world's largest startup campus), and the French Tech Visa makes it easy for international graduates to join startups. UX/UI designers are among the most in-demand roles across the ecosystem.
Mandatory Paid Creative Internships
Every design MSc in France includes a mandatory stage (internship) of 4–6 months at a design agency, tech company, or in-house creative team — paid at minimum SMIC wage (€11.88/hour). You graduate with a real portfolio of client work and European professional experience.
Design Thinking + French Creative Culture
French design education uniquely blends rigorous design methodology (research, prototyping, testing) with an artistic sensibility rooted in centuries of visual culture. This 'design thinking meets art direction' approach is highly valued by global employers who want designers who can think strategically AND create beautifully.

What Indian Students
Need to Qualify
These are baseline criteria. Our counsellors assess your profile individually and tell you exactly where you stand.
Academic Background
Bachelor's degree in Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Computer Science, HCI, or a related creative/technical field. Most programs accept portfolios over grades — a strong portfolio is the #1 selection criterion. BDes, BFA, and BTech graduates with design experience are all eligible. Some programs accept non-design graduates with strong portfolios and relevant work experience.
Portfolio
This is the most critical element of your application — more important than grades or test scores. Submit 15–20 pieces showcasing UX/UI projects, web designs, graphic design work, motion design, or interactive prototypes. Include process work (wireframes, user flows, research insights) alongside finished designs. Gobelins and ENSAD evaluate portfolio quality above all else.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.0–6.5 or TOEFL iBT 80+ for most international programs. Many private design schools (HETIC, Strate, Intuit Lab) have flexible language requirements and may accept alternative proof. Students from English-medium Indian colleges may qualify for waivers with a Medium of Instruction certificate.
Technical Skills
Basic proficiency in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), and ideally HTML/CSS fundamentals. Programs don't expect expert-level coding, but familiarity with prototyping tools and basic web technologies is expected. Some programs (HETIC, Strate) include coding bootcamps in the first semester.
Documents Required
Portfolio (15–20 pieces, PDF or online link), Statement of Purpose / Motivation Letter (explain your design philosophy and career goals), CV, transcripts, 1–2 Letters of Recommendation (from professors or design industry mentors), passport copy. Some schools require a design challenge or creative test as part of the admission process.
Not sure if you qualify? Our counsellors do a profile analysis and tell you which schools you can get into — and what it takes to strengthen your application.
