What is a Masters in
Finance in France?
A Masters in Finance (MSc Finance) is a specialised postgraduate degree that prepares you for careers in investment banking, portfolio management, risk analysis, corporate finance, and fintech — across Europe and the world.
Unlike an MBA with a finance concentration (which requires 3–7 years of work experience), the MSc Finance is designed for fresh graduates or those with up to 3 years of experience. It goes deeper into financial theory, quantitative modelling, derivatives, and market analysis.
France is uniquely positioned for this degree. Paris — home to BNP Paribas, Société Générale, AXA, Natixis, and Crédit Agricole — became Europe's largest stock trading centre after Brexit. The world's leading finance schools (HEC Paris, EDHEC, ESSEC) are here, with Bloomberg terminals in classrooms and CFA-aligned curricula.

6 Reasons France
Is the Best Place to
Study Finance
Paris is Europe's financial capital. France's business schools rank among the world's top 10 for finance. Here is what makes studying MSc Finance in France a categorically better decision.
Paris = Europe's #1 Financial Hub
Post-Brexit, Paris has overtaken London as Europe's largest stock trading centre. BNP Paribas, Société Générale, AXA, and Crédit Agricole are all headquartered here — and they recruit directly from French business schools.
Triple Crown Accreditation
Most leading French business schools hold AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA accreditations — the 'Triple Crown' earned by fewer than 1% of business schools worldwide. Your finance degree carries global weight.
Bloomberg Terminals in Schools
HEC Paris, EDHEC, ESSEC, and Audencia have dedicated Bloomberg terminal labs. Students gain hands-on experience with real-time financial data, trading simulations, and portfolio analysis — the same tools used on Wall Street.
CFA Partnership Programs
EDHEC, ESSEC, and SKEMA are CFA Institute University Affiliation Program partners. Their curricula cover 70%+ of the CFA exam syllabus — giving you a massive head start on the world's most respected finance qualification.
Mandatory Bank Internships
Every MSc Finance program in France mandates a 4–6 month internship — often at BNP Paribas, Société Générale, Natixis, or Lazard. You graduate with real European banking experience, not just a degree.
2-Year Post-Study Work Visa
France's APS permit gives you the right to live and work in France after graduation, with full Schengen zone access — a direct path to European finance careers and residency.

What Indian Students
Need to Qualify
These are baseline criteria. Our counsellors assess your profile individually and tell you exactly where you stand.
Academic Score & Accepted Degrees
Bachelor's degree (3 or 4 years) — quantitative backgrounds (B.Tech, BSc Maths/Stats, BCom, BBA Finance, Economics) are preferred. HEC Paris and ESSEC expect 80%+ (CGPA 8.0+). EDHEC and ESCP accept 70%–75%. SKEMA, Audencia, and Grenoble EM work with 60%–65%. Any discipline with strong analytical skills is accepted.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.0+ (no band below 5.5) or TOEFL iBT 85+. All top finance programs are taught entirely in English — no French language requirement. Students from English-medium Indian colleges often qualify for waivers.
GMAT / GRE (Recommended)
HEC Paris and ESSEC strongly value GMAT 680+ or GRE 320+. EDHEC and ESCP prefer GMAT 600+. Smaller business schools usually do not require it. A strong GMAT score unlocks 10%–50% merit scholarships at most institutions. Plan to take the GMAT 4–6 months before your application deadline.
Work Experience
Not mandatory for most MSc Finance programs — they are designed for fresh graduates with 0–2 years of experience. However, internships at banks, asset management firms, or financial advisory companies significantly strengthen your application at HEC and ESSEC. CFA Level 1 preparation or completion is viewed very favourably and can compensate for a slightly lower GMAT score.
Documents Required
Statement of Purpose (1–2 pages — demonstrate your interest in finance, any relevant coursework, and career goals in banking, consulting, or asset management), 2–3 Letters of Recommendation (1 academic + 1 professional preferred), updated CV, all academic transcripts, passport copy, and any relevant certifications (CFA, Bloomberg, financial modelling courses). SOPs are checked for plagiarism — always write your own.
Not sure if you qualify? Our counsellors do a profile analysis and tell you which finance schools you can get into — and what it takes to strengthen your application.
