Study Medicine
in the World's
#1 Healthcare
System.
France's public medical education costs just €170/year. The WHO ranked its healthcare system #1 in the world. From Pasteur to Sorbonne — train where modern medicine was born.
Important: Medical programs in France are taught entirely in French. B2–C1 French proficiency is mandatory.
What is MBBS / Medicine
in France?
Medical education in France follows a structured pathway that produces some of the world's most skilled physicians. The French medical degree — Diplôme d'État de Docteur en Médecine — is equivalent to MBBS and is the only pathway to practising medicine in France and across the EU.
The program spans 6 years for general medicine: the first year follows the reformed PASS (Parcours d'Accès Spécifique Santé) or L.AS (Licence avec Accès Santé) system, followed by 2 years of preclinical studies and 3 years of clinical externship (externat) in university hospitals. After the 6th year, students enter 3–6 years of specialisation (internat), depending on their chosen field.
The 2020 PACES/PASS reform eliminated the notoriously competitive first-year exam bottleneck, creating multiple pathways into medical studies. This reform has made French medical education more accessible to international students, including those from India.
Critical Note: All medical programs in France are taught entirely in French. Unlike business schools or engineering programs, there are zero English-taught MBBS options. B2–C1 French proficiency (TCF/DELF certified) is mandatory before enrolment.

6 Reasons to Study
Medicine in France
France produced Louis Pasteur, pioneered modern surgery, and built the world's best healthcare system. Here is why it remains an extraordinary choice for medical education.
WHO #1 Healthcare System
The World Health Organization ranked France's healthcare system #1 in the world. Training within this system means learning from the gold standard of patient care, hospital management, and public health infrastructure.
Near-Free Public Medical Education
Public medical universities in France charge just €170–€500 per year in tuition. That is not a typo. French medical education is subsidised by the state — making it dramatically cheaper than private medical colleges in India.
Pasteur Institute & World-Class Research
France is the birthplace of modern medicine. The Pasteur Institute, INSERM, and CNRS drive global medical research. Students train alongside researchers who are shaping the future of immunology, virology, and oncology.
EU-Recognised Medical Degree
A French medical degree (Diplôme d'État de Docteur en Médecine) is recognised across all 27 EU member states. Graduates can practice in France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and beyond — without additional licensing exams.
Clinical Training in French Hospitals
From the third year, medical students in France begin clinical rotations in university hospitals. By graduation, you will have thousands of hours of hands-on patient care experience — a level of clinical exposure unmatched by many countries.
Pathway to Practice in the EU
After completing your specialisation, you can practice medicine anywhere in the European Union. France's 2-year APS visa also allows non-EU graduates to stay and begin their medical career in France immediately after qualifying.

What Indian Students
Need to Qualify
Medical admissions in France have specific requirements. French language proficiency is the single most critical factor.
Academic Score & Accepted Qualifications
Minimum 75%+ (CGPA 7.5+) in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Science stream in 12th grade. Top medical universities like Sorbonne and Paris Cité expect 80%+ (CGPA 8.0+). Strasbourg, Montpellier, and Lyon accept 75%+. Strong academic records in biology and chemistry are essential. A science-focused undergraduate degree is also accepted.
French Language B2–C1 (Mandatory)
Unlike business programs, medical education in France is taught entirely in French. B2 level is the minimum requirement; C1 is strongly recommended. You must pass TCF/DELF examinations before enrolment. This is non-negotiable.
NEET Qualification
NEET qualification is helpful for demonstrating your medical aptitude but is not always a mandatory requirement for French universities. It strengthens your application profile and is useful if you plan to return to India to practice.
Clinical Exposure & Volunteering
Not mandatory but highly valued. Clinical volunteering at hospitals or clinics, medical camp participation, shadowing doctors, or healthcare NGO work significantly strengthen your profile. NEET qualification combined with clinical volunteering demonstrates serious medical commitment to French admissions committees.
Documents Required
Statement of Purpose (1–2 pages, essay-style), 2–3 Letters of Recommendation (1 academic + 1 from a medical professional preferred), updated CV, all academic transcripts including 12th-grade marksheet, passport copy, NEET scorecard (if available), TCF/DELF French language certificate, and any clinical volunteering or internship certificates. All documents may need sworn French translation.
Not sure if you qualify? Our counsellors assess your academic profile, French language level, and NEET status to tell you exactly where you stand and what steps to take next.
