What is a Masters in
Artificial Intelligence?
A Masters in Artificial Intelligence (MSc AI) is a postgraduate degree that teaches you to design, build, and deploy intelligent systems — from deep learning models and natural language processing to computer vision and autonomous systems.
Unlike a general Computer Science degree, an AI Masters goes deep into machine learning theory, neural architectures, reinforcement learning, and applied AI research. Unlike a Data Science degree, it focuses on building intelligent agents, not just analysing data.
France is uniquely positioned for this. The country's mathematical tradition — more Fields Medals than any European nation — gives its AI programs unmatched theoretical depth. Combined with €2.2 billion in government AI funding, 4 national AI institutes, and labs from Meta, Google, and NVIDIA in Paris, France offers an AI ecosystem rivalled only by the USA.

6 Reasons France Is
Europe's AI Capital
No European country invests more in AI, hosts more global AI labs, or has a stronger mathematical foundation than France. Here is why studying AI in France is a categorically different decision.
4 National AI Institutes (3IA)
France established four Interdisciplinary Institutes of Artificial Intelligence (3IA) — in Paris, Grenoble, Nice, and Toulouse. These are dedicated national centres for AI research, training, and industry collaboration, putting France at Europe's AI frontier.
€2.2 Billion National AI Strategy
President Macron committed €2.2 billion to the national AI strategy — funding research chairs, GPU clusters, PhD programs, and startup incubators. No other European country invests at this scale in artificial intelligence.
Yann LeCun & French AI Legacy
Yann LeCun — Turing Award winner and Chief AI Scientist at Meta — is French. France's mathematical tradition has produced pioneers in deep learning, computer vision, and NLP. Meta's second-largest AI lab is in Paris.
NVIDIA, Google & Meta AI Labs in Paris
Paris hosts AI research labs from Meta (FAIR Paris), Google DeepMind, NVIDIA, Samsung, Microsoft, and Huawei. This concentration of global AI labs means direct internship and recruitment pipelines for MSc graduates.
World's Strongest Math Tradition
France has more Fields Medal winners than any country except the USA. AI is fundamentally mathematics — and French universities teach the mathematical foundations (linear algebra, probability, optimisation) at a depth unmatched elsewhere in Europe.
2-Year Post-Study Work Visa
France's APS permit gives you the right to live and work in France for 2 years after graduation, with full Schengen zone access — a direct path to AI careers across Europe and a route to permanent residency.

What Indian Students
Need to Qualify
These are baseline criteria. Our counsellors assess your profile individually and tell you exactly where you stand.
Academic Score & Accepted Degrees
Bachelor's degree (3 or 4 years) in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or a related quantitative discipline — B.Tech, BE, BSc, BCA all accepted. Ecole Polytechnique and Paris-Saclay expect 75%+ (CGPA 7.5+). CentraleSupélec and ENS/PSL accept 70%+. Public universities like Grenoble Alpes and Toulouse work with 65%+. Strong mathematical foundations are essential.
GRE (Preferred)
A strong GRE Quantitative score (160+) strengthens applications at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris-Saclay, and PSL. Many public universities do not require it, but it can unlock scholarship opportunities. Plan to take the GRE 4–6 months before your application deadline.
English Proficiency
IELTS 6.5 (no band below 6.0) or TOEFL iBT 90+. All top AI programs are taught fully in English — no French language requirement for admission. French is optional but helpful for daily life.
Work Experience
Not strictly mandatory, but relevant experience in AI/ML — technical internships, research projects, Kaggle competitions, or open-source contributions — significantly strengthens your application. Candidates with hands-on experience in Python, TensorFlow, or PyTorch stand out at top programs.
Documents Required
Statement of Purpose (1–2 pages, essay-style), 2–3 Letters of Recommendation (1 academic + 1 professional preferred), updated CV, all academic transcripts, passport copy, and relevant project portfolio. Important: Charpak Scholarship SOPs are checked for plagiarism and AI-generated content is now flagged — always write your own.
Not sure if you qualify? Our counsellors do a profile analysis and tell you which AI programs you can get into — and what it takes to strengthen your application.
